Money Matters Lecture Series: MoneyWise

Thursday, August 22, 2019,  7-8:30pm

Mike Jones, EECU (Educational Employees Credit Union)

An interactive workshop on the wise use of money. This includes budgeting systems, principles of setting up a spending plan and track spending. All will enjoy hands-on segment of this workshop where they get to work in small groups to design a budget. This workshop is best for high school freshman through college seniors and adults.

A fun and eye-opening workshop designed to teach the basics of credit, credit reports and credit scores. Along with the basic information, we also debunk credit myths. This workshop is best for high school sophomores through college seniors and adults.

Death Be Not Proud! Viewing and Discussion of the Film Wit.

Saturday, September 21: 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Film and Discussion: Based on Margaret Edson’s Pulitzer Prize-winning play, the film Wit, directed by Mike Nichols, features Emma Thompson and Audra McDonald. Dr. Vivian Bearing, a demanding professor of English literature whose specialty is the poetry of John Donne, is diagnosed with terminal cancer.  This film reveals her journey as she contemplates her life and the meaning of one of Donne’s major poems, Death Be Not Proud. Join us for a discussion about how our lives and perceptions of mortality are influenced by our environment and the inherent poetry of life itself.

Ten Poems to Change Your Life

In this workshop, we will focus on Roger Housden’s book Ten Poems to Change Your Life. We will read and discuss some of the poems chosen by Housden. As he states, “this poetry gives voice to a spiritual reality that is beyond the copyright of any religion. It voices the longings of the spirit and our deep desires-the desire for meaning, for a life of passion and creativity, for a sense of belonging, for wisdom, and as always, for love.”

Forgiveness: An Inquiry

Tuesday, November 12th AND Tuesday, November 19th, 10 am – 12 pm (This is a 2 part class. Participants will need to attend both sessions) — NOTE: Updated dates.

Perhaps you have had those times when it felt as though past hurt/anger is in charge of your current behavior.  This workshop will result in an understanding that while forgiveness may seem impossible it is the only route of hope and healing.  Please join Rich to explore how the impact of significant pain from the past is a barrier to a loving future and the opportunity to grow.

Feel free to bring a sack lunch for community and conversation after the 2-hour group session.

Autumn Spiritual Retreat 

Saturday, November 16th: 9:30am -3:00pm 

These cool days of autumn provide an invitation to reflect on life’s natural cycles of change. Join Rev. Tim for a day of connection to inner wisdom. We’ll warm our bodies with gentle movement, clarify our awareness with meditation, and let peace seep in fully with deep relaxation. We’ll build an autumn altar, and use chant, ritual, and poetry to reflect upon autumn’s lessons of stillness, color, and transformation. No prior meditation experience needed. All bodies and body types are welcome. Invite friends to join you. Wear loose and comfortable clothing, bring two cozy blankets to use during relaxation periods, bring pillows or a mat to sit on (or you can use a chair), and bring a bag lunch.

Morning Only is also an option for those unable to stay the whole day (9:30 – 12:30).

Meditation for Uncertain Times

Thursday, December 12th / 10:00 am – 11:30 am OR 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm

Join Rev. Tim and learn several simple and highly effective meditations that can act as a spiritual and personal foundation in these uncertain times. We will explore different styles of meditation, including silent meditation, guided meditation, chant, and visual meditation. Beginners and experienced meditators are both welcome. Please bring a cushion or pillow to sit on, or plan to use a chair if that feels more comfortable. Most of all, bring your beautiful heart and spirit and let’s help each other feel more connected and whole in these times of mass distraction

Winter Solstice Celebration

Friday, December 20th / 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm

Join us as we anticipate the longest night of the year. This evening of candlelight and rituals is led by Rev. Tim Kutzmark, the Earth-Centered Unitarian Universalists, and the Worship Arts Team.  The celebration ends with a spiral dance and bonfire. Appropriate for ages 6+ Childcare for younger children available upon request.
