About Lifespan Religious Exploration:

A primary purpose of religion—and religious exploration—is to nurture all that is right and good in us, to help us to grow into our best selves.

From infancy through all stages of life, Unitarian Universalist Religious Exploration grounds us in our values, bonds us together in community, teaches what our souls need to know, and inspires us to bring more peace, justice, and love into the world. (Excerpted from the Unitarian Universalist pocket guide.)

Here at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Fresno, we believe that nurturing what is right and good happens from birth through our later stages in life. We offer classes for all ages that are developmentally appropriate and sourced in our Unitarian Universalist principles, while fostering opportunities for individual and collective faith development.

Thematic Ministry

Our religious exploration program is structured around monthly theological themes that are utilized in our worship service, small group ministries, and youth classrooms.  In partnership with a network of Unitarian Universalist churches throughout North America, we are part of the Soul Matters Sharing Circle, which provides resources related to the themes each month. There are opportunities to engage the monthly theme at church, home and in our newsletter. Click the title for more information about the monthly themes, including a theme sheet with extensive ways to explore each month’s theme in more depth.

Spirit School

Spirit School (Pre-K-12th grade) is our thematically-based and experiential religious exploration program offered here at UUCF. Spirit School is our version of Sunday School and happens during the service on Sunday mornings. Our classes provide learning opportunities for all youth regardless of learning styles, religion, gender, or culture. We learn about our monthly theme and utilize a variety of developmentally appropriate curricula to discuss our Unitarian Universalist principles and sources. From yoga to world religions; social justice to sustainability, click the title to see our offerings for those three years old through 12th grade. (Those under three are welcome to stay with their families or go to our nursery, which is staffed by two qualified adults, during the service.)

Adult Religious Exploration

The UU Church of Fresno offers a wide range of opportunities for Unitarian Universalist Identity and Faith Development. We accomplish this through small group ministry, theological coursework, and multiple events from workshops to interpersonal sharing of experiences. We offer spiritually-grounded classes for adults covering a wide array of topics from academic to personal growth to justice to theological. Our small group ministry of Chalice Circles meet monthly and delve more deeply into our principles and covenant by exploring the monthly themes. Click on the title for the current offerings!
